Guestbook | Print Obituary

Doug Wright, "Pops" 66 of Lubbock, the man, the myth, the legend went fishing with Jesus on Thursday, November 2, 2017. He was born April 24, 1951 to Sam James and Inez (Addington) Wright in McKinney, Texas. Doug married Sharon (Dye) Wright on August 24, 1970. He owned his own business in construction for many years before going into full time sales at Hartman Roofing for 15 years. Doug was a member of Christian Life Assembly of God.

Doug was a generous, loving daddy to everyone he met. He was the best husband a girl could have, and he spoiled his soul-mate and best friend like no other. Family was his life! And everyone was family. His generosity knew no bounds. To try to put into words who he was is hard. He loved hunting, fishing, telling stories (and oh, how he could tell a story), cheering on his grandkids at sporting events, pitching washer...and he was an avid supporter of public education via the Texas Lottery. Lake house trips, guys weekend, Fourth of July, and gingerbread houses gave us memories to last a lifetime. As you go through the holiday season, the family requests that in honor of Doug, that you live generously, love deeply, and pay kindness forward to someone in need.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Sharon; daughters, Stephanie and husband James Langford of Smyer, Shelly and husband Jeff Tate of Shallowater; son, Slade and wife Jennifer Wright of The Colony; siblings, Mike and wife Sharon Wright of Arkansas, Randy and wife Shirley Wright of Lubbock, Barbara Moore of Oklahoma, Carolyn Jarrott of Arkansas, Kathy and husband Ronnie Evans of Lubbock, Ann Cowan of Monahans, Mary Little of Lubbock; grandchildren, Lexie and Eric Wright, Maddison and Kennlee Tate, Kendall Wright and Aaliyah Chavera; one great grandchild, Gage Wright; Extended special family, Sheila Bice, Sonjia Stroope, Johnny Dye and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Inez; extended family, E.K. and Exie Dye, Kennie Ray Dye, and Gary Dye.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017, at the Venue on Broadway.
