Anna Frances Rice Walker went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, November 5, 2017 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born September 12, 1925 in El Paso, Texas to Wayne Fitzgerald Rice and Anna Burton Rice. Frances, known as "Fran" to friends and family graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Minor in Music. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Waiting for him to return from World War II while serving in the 82nd Airborne Division, she married the love of her life, Arvie E. Walker, Jr. on June 7, 1945 in Big Spring, Texas. She was a devoted, loving, caring wife, mother and homemaker as they were transferred and lived in several places. Her husband continued his career as a geologist in the oil patch living in San Angelo, Abilene, Amarillo, Winchester, Kentucky and Bridgeport, West Virginia. They returned to Big Spring in 1962. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1988 after spending 42 wonderful years together. She taught school at Forsan High School, teaching English and first and second year Spanish. She participated as a Pep Squad Leader and a mentor to students in need. She was selected, along with her husband, to chaperone a few Senior Class trips on a school bus to out-of -state destinations. Her stories would bring tears of laughter to the family. Fran loved teaching and she loved her students. After retirement, she enjoyed extensive traveling. From early marriage until her passing, she was active, in every way, with family gatherings, holidays, birthdays, wedding celebrations and family vacations. She shared her youthful spirit of having fun with her family surrounding her. She moved to the Lubbock area, living in Shallowater in 1997. This was an opportunity for her to live close to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, attending home football games for over 40 years. In addition to her children, she had a passionate love for her fur- babies (dogs). They were her children throughout the years. Fran was a member of St Luke Episcopal Church in Levelland, Texas.

She is survived by her son, Reverend James A. Walker and daughter-in-law, Robbie Walker of Lubbock; daughter, Beth Brown and son-in-law, Tim Brown of Lubbock; and son, Robert Walker and daughter-in-law, Mercy Walker of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Michelle Traylor, Andrea Lehmann, Jennifer Hurst of Lubbock, David Walker of Boulder, Colorado, Heather Reed of Midland, Texas, Holly Duckworth of Liberty Hill, Texas, Chanda Walker of Corpus Christi, Texas and Celeste Walker of Sanford, Florida. She is, also survived by great-grandchildren, Maddy Traylor, Jessica Traylor, Katie Lehmann, Zachary Lehmann, Noah Hurst, Ella Hurst and great-great grandson, Dre Rosemond of Lubbock, a niece Virginia Alford, a nephew David Lee of San Antonio, Texas and a nephew Robert Lee of Addison, Texas.

A family graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 11 with Rev. James A. Walker officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory with interment at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, Texas.

Donations in Fran's name may be made to the "Animal Rescue Association" of your choice, The Walker Family Scholarship at South Plains College, or the Diabetes Association.
