Ronald Lee Reed ("Ron" or "Pa Pa") passed away November 7, 2017 at the Callander House in Lubbock, Texas after a ten-year struggle with Alzheimer's.

Ronald was born September 27, 1934 to Glenn and Florence (Jenkins) Reed. He grew up on the family farm at Stafford, Kansas. He attended the Stafford schools, graduating from Stafford High School in 1952. He then went on to Abilene Christian College (now University) in Abilene, Texas, receiving a BS degree in Bible in 1956. Ron then went on to Harding College (now University) at Searcy, Arkansas where he received his MS degree in Bible in 1957.

Ron then began preaching for the churches of Christ in Boaz, Alabama, then Clifton, Kansas and Sundown, Texas. He also taught several years at Whitharral High School while working on a MS degree in English and History. In 1964, he moved to Lubbock, Texas and began a long career teaching English at Lubbock Christian College (now University). During that time, he completed his MS in English and also earned a PHD in English from Texas Tech in 1971. Ron also served as Chairman of the English Department, retiring in 2006. He loved his LCU family and still kept close even after he retired. He would get so excited for the Birthday or Lunch Bunch meetups. One of his favorite past times at LCU were the chat times with his colleagues in the "kitchen" at the office building.

Ron enjoyed attending and watching sports events whether live or on TV. He was a Red Raider Fan, enjoying football and basketball the most. When the Dallas Cowboy games were on TV they were a must-see event. He also enjoyed listening to classical music, opera, reading, snow skiing, and watching movies. He also enjoyed golfing with his son Billy and anyone else willing to hit the golf course. He always enjoyed going to church services rarely missing a Sunday or Wednesday worship service.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Florence Reed and his step-mother Gertrude (Gertie) Reed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son Billy "Glenn" Reed and his daughter Jolie Harmon. He leaves three grandchildren, Jacob and Jeffrey Harmon, and Caleb Reed, three great-granddaughters, Zoe, Madelina and Adara Harmon a great-grandson, Payton Harmon, and his ex-wife Donna King Reed. He also leaves his only sibling, Raymond Reed of Shawnee, Kansas plus many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and a special long-time friend, Betty Jolly. Also, left behind was his constant companion, his dog Brownie.

The family wishes to give a special "thank you" to the wonderful people who have taken care of Ron at Callander House and to those working with him through Hospice of Lubbock. You all have been a blessing to the family as well as to Ronald.
