She attended Texas Tech University where she majored in Spanish and studied English and Portuguese. She graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in August 1945.

Bonnie met Arlee at a mixer at Broadway Church of Christ, and they married when he returned from the navy after World War II on February 16, 1946. They were married over 68 years until Arlee died in 2014. When first married, they lived on base in Amarillo until Arlee left the navy, and then they moved to Lubbock, Texas. Bonnie taught high school Spanish and English until her first child was born in 1951. They have two children, Bonnie Lee Hill of Dallas, Texas and Dr. Connie Louise Hiers, a plastic surgeon in San Antonio.

They built their Amway dream home in 1970, and stayed there until 2014 when they moved to San Antonio. Arlee died in San Antonio in 2014. Arlee and Bonnie were members of the Kings Ridge Church of Christ in Lubbock.

Bonnie died peacefully in her sleep very early on Thanksgiving Day, one day before Arlee's birthday.
