Alan L. “Skinny” Higgins of Lubbock, formerly of Plainview and Big Spring, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the age of 86. Skinny married Geneva Merle McKee on March 5, 1948. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Skinny retired in 2010 after 59 years in the cotton industry.
Some of his past achievements include President of Plains Ginners Association; Charter Member and President of the Texas Independent Ginner’s Association; President of the Texas Cotton Ginners Association; Honorary Member of Abernathy FFA and Texas State FFA; recipient of the Golden Spur Award from Hale County 4H; Director of the Salvation Army in Plainview; Director of Plainview Housing Association; Director and President of the Plainview Livestock Show.
Those left to cherish his memory his wife, Geneva; two sons, Wayne Higgins of Lubbock and Ross Higgins and wife Terri of Plainview; four grandchildren, Kelli Duriex and husband Dennis of Lubbock, Wesley Higgins and wife Laci of Knott, Melissa Higgins of Dallas and Amy Higgins of Plainview; and five great-grandchildren, Marin and Benjamin Duriex of Lubbock and Aleigha, Paizley, and Lyleigh Higgins of Knott.
Skinny was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Grady Higgins in 1982.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Combest Family Funeral Homes. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Redbud Baptist Church with interment to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview, Texas.
