Alejandro "Alex" Gutierrez

Alejandro “Alex” Gutierrez, 40, of Lubbock, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.  Alex was born in Lubbock on December 24, 1982, the only child to Richard Gutierrez and Lucy (Lara) Gutierrez.

Alex grew up in Lubbock, attending Monterey High School where he graduated with the senior class of 2001.

Alex met the love of his life in the summer of 2001, Rita Ledesma, and they were united in marriage on July 12, 2008, in Lubbock.  They spent 23 beautiful years together, and out of this blessed union, they bore two wonderful sons, Manuel and Ezeakel.

He was a professional furniture maker prior to becoming a tile layer, where he owned and operated AG Texas Tile for a little over 3 years.  He loved woodworking, fishing, hunting, shooting guns, and was an avid gunsmith.  He thoroughly enjoyed collecting unique baseball caps, was a true-hearted family man and loved spending time with his boys, Manuel and Ezeakel.

Alex was a boxing coach for Amateur USA Boxing, which impacted the lives of many kids.  He also opened his own boxing club, where he trained his son Manuel, and opened the gym to the community at no charge.

Alex was a wise man who offered up great advice.  He was outspoken, ambitious, hardworking and self-motivated.  Anybody he was close to, he would give the shirt off his back to them.  He was a man of many trades, and anything he was passionate about, he went full force with it and never left anything unfinished.  There was never a dull moment with him, as he filled our lives with joy, lots of laughter and love.  Alex will always be in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten, and we will cherish the special memories we had of him.

Those left to cherish and honor his memory include his loving wife, Rita; two sons, Manuel Alejandro Gutierrez and Ezeakel Alonzo Gutierrez of Lubbock; his parents, Richard Gutierrez and Lucy (Lara) Gutierrez of Lubbock; and a host of extended family members.  He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services for Alex will be held at 10 AM on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401.  The officiant for the service will be Angelo Torrez.  Memorial services and cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
