Amelia Garza Vasquez of Lubbock passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the age of 84. She was born July 8, 1930 in Robstown, Texas to Manuel and Guadalupe (Castillo) Garza. She worked many years as a nurse’s aide and as a line assembler for Texas Instruments. She married Locadio Vasquez on January 8, 1952 and was a member of San Ramon Catholic Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Locadio; four children, Amelia “Amy” Robertson and husband Al and Angela Vasquez, all of Lubbock, Alice Garza and husband Ramon of Austin, and Alcario “Chito” Vasquez and wife Adela of Lubbock; siblings, Manuel Garza, Jr. and Amalia Garza, both of Brownsville, Angie Gutierrez of Corpus Christi, Connie Rickman of Tacoma, Washington, Janie Soliz of Austin, and Margie Ortiz of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and her caregivers Michelle Lopez and Andrianne Marin.
Amelia was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Paula Medina; and granddaughter, Amy Diane Vasquez.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at San Ramon Catholic Church with interment to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
