Andrew Kent Astwood, 57, of Lubbock, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 16, 2022.  Andrew was born on December 11, 1964, in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas, to Victor C. and Sue Kathryn (Case) Astwood.

Andrew was the fifth child and fourth son to this family.  He grew up in Amarillo, Laredo and Lubbock, Texas.  Andrew graduated in 1983 from Coronado High School.  He excelled in football and music.  He attended Texas Tech University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science in 1988.

Andrew served in the United States Air Force for six years as a Captain.  He had also worked as a tech in the operating room and as a monitor tech at Covenant Hospital.  Andrew found his passion as a history teacher at Hutchinson Junior High School for 15 years.  He loved to teach about the Alamo.  Andrew had a phenomenal memory for details, especially history and sports.  Andrew loved to celebrate Christmas and he had a nativity scene and fully decorated Christmas tree on display all year long.

Andrew’s dog, Fudge, was his pride and joy.  Andrew taught Fudge to bow his head and pray with him daily.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his mother, Sue; a sister, Rosemarie Astwood of Lubbock; three brothers, Michael, and his wife Shirley of Kingwood, Charles of Wichita Falls and John and his wife Kristy of Lubbock; one niece; eight nephews and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Victor C. Astwood, in March of 2021.

Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 5802 22nd Street, Lubbock, Texas 79407.  Father Jim McCartney will be the Celebrant, assisted by Deacon Kyle Broderson.  Final rites and interment will follow in the Petersburg Cemetery in Petersburg, Texas under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
