Dan Wilbanks, 73, of Idalou went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 4, 2014. He was born to W. Brad and Rosa Lee (Bennett) Wilbanks on February 25, 1941 in Artesia, New Mexico. He graduated from Idalou High School in 1959. Dan married Barbara Bramlett in 1962 at First Baptist Church in Idalou. He worked at Idalou State Bank and Lubbock National Bank before joining his father-in-law in the family business in 1976, currently known as Wilbanks Vacuum Center. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Idalou serving in several ministries, including Deacon, Director of the Royal Ambassadors since the early 1970’s and church treasurer over the past 20 years. He also was a member with the AMBUCS downtown branch; he received the Idalou Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Achievement Award in 1999 and was named the Lubbock Area Baptist Association Lay Person of the Year for 2000.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara; son, Steve Wilbanks of Idalou; daughter, Kristi Perkins and husband Russ of Idalou; brothers, Tom Wilbanks of Garland, Pete Wilbanks of Maxville, Florida, Ed Wilbanks of Idalou, and Joe Wilbanks of Mathis; grandchildren, Kole and his wife Brooke Perkins and Will Perkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Wilbanks; his in-laws, Dale and Evelyn Bramlett.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 with the family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Idalou. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Idalou Cemetery with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Idalou.
