Benny Charles Gass, of Lubbock, entered this life on December 8, 1961, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 1, 2024 at the age of 62. He was born in Lamesa, Texas to Sharon Kay (Brewer) and the late Charles Vaughn Gass.
He grew up in O’Donnell, Texas, where he graduated high school in 1980. Afterwards, he went on to attend San Angelo State and Texas Tech University.
Benny married the love of his life, Cindra Dee (Robison), on March 12, 1983 in O’Donnell. They had recently celebrated their 41st anniversary. Cindra was in the second grade when she recalled seeing Benny for the first time. He was walking across the street to school and she remembered thinking she wanted to marry him one day. Their love story was so special and timeless.
Shortly after marriage, he began farming around the Lynn and Dawson County areas where he continued with the family cotton farming business for almost twenty years. Over the past fourteen years, Benny was employed with Wylie & Son in Lamesa. He met some of his life-long friends during his time there as their store manager, specializing in agriculture equipment.
Benny was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, skiing, golf and especially shooting sporting clay and Helice. He also grew up stock showing and raising hogs and continued that with his children. He enjoyed going to the horse races, rodeos, and loved a good old western movie. He was a lover of music and had a vast collection of blues, jazz, rock, and old country and had it playing continuously on any road trip.
In addition to all of his hobbies, he was most proud of his family and always wanted to give them whatever their hearts desired. He was loving, a protector, very soft-hearted, the best jokester, and he loved to talk and tell stories.
Benny grew up attending the First Baptist Church in O’Donnell and was currently attending The City Church in Lubbock.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Cindra; their children, Chasity (Andy) Keyes and Colby Gass all of Lubbock. His mother, Sharon Kay Gass, and his siblings; Penny (Don) Forbes of O’Donnell and Corey (Brenda) Gass of Lubbock.
He greatly cherished his two beautiful granddaughters, Syler and Saegan Keyes. Benny also leaves behind many nieces and nephews; Chera (Tatum) Bessire, Amber (Cody) Lee, Tonya (Jeff) Graham, Justin Forbes, Zaden Robison, and Parker, Grady, and Marin Gass.
Great nieces and nephews, whom he loved; Bliss and Brock Bessire, Lincoln and London Graham, Hazel and Grayson Lee. His large and loving extended family including his in-laws, uncles, aunts, and numerous cousins, will forever hold him close in their hearts. Benny was preceded in death by his father, Charles, on January 16, 2020.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 9:30 am to 10:15 am in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will follow at 10:30am, with Revered Taylor Wood officiating.
