Berta Jo (Whalen) Marcum, 77, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, November 9, 2024. She was born on July 14, 1947, in Centralia, Illinois, to the late Ollie Whalen and Janettie “Hardesty” Whalen.
She attended high school and graduated with her senior class at Centralia High School in Centralia, Illinois.
She met the love of her life, Robert Marcum, and they were married in Centralia, Illinois. Mr. Marcum preceded her in death on April 31, 2007.
Mrs. Marcum worked as a Quality Control Officer for Frito Lay for 30 years, before retiring in 2007. She loved cats, and collecting cat figurines.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include a step-nephew, Paul Love of Lubbock; a nephew, Michael J. Turner of Waco; and a niece, Sandy Oliver Brennan of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and a host of extended cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Robert Marcum, a sister, Lou Etta “Whalen” Love and a nephew, David Oliver.
No services will be held at this time. Memorial services will be held after the first of the year and the obituary will be updated at that time.
Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, and due to no services being held, the family requests that all who wish to remember Berta, please donate in her memory to the Haven Animal Shelter, 4501 FM 1729, Lubbock, TX 79403.
