Bertha Brewer

Bertha Marie (Cook) Brewer, 87, of Lubbock, passed away from her earthly home on Thursday, February 23, 2023. She was born on August 21, 1935 in Draw, Texas to Thedo Washburn and Leona Bertha (Caswell) Cook. Bertha grew up in Lynn County. She graduated from O’Donnell High School. Bertha married Glen Burleson “Burley” Brewer on June 12, 1952 in Draw, Texas.

While living in the community, she and Burley were partners in farming, chemical distribution, and fertilizer distribution. Bertha also owned and operated her own floral shop. They were members at First United Methodist church in O’Donnell, Texas.

She had the heart of a servant and could often be found serving in her community and church. Bertha loved to travel with Burley, especially to their place in Ruidoso. Family and friends were a very important part of Bertha’s life and she loved visiting with them.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 70 years, Glen Burleson Brewer; children, Pamela (Anthony) Guettner, Thedo Burleson “Burley” (Beth) Brewer, and Glenda Brewer; grandchildren, Anchen Guettner, Amber (Jonathan) Owens, Rebecca (Jessica) Brewer, Bonnie (Ryan) Halbert, Keiley Harrison, and Rhett (Patricia) Harrison; great grandchildren, Jordan (Carmen) Owens, Cathryn Owens, Anthony Gilley, Austin Owens, Jada Owens, Tommie Michelle Halbert, Marley Harrison, and Stevie Harrison; and great-great grandchild, Riya Owens.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thedo and Leona Cook; sister, Drucilla Cook Kizer; grandchild, Bobbie Michelle Brewer; and great grandchild, Cody Latham.

A Funeral Service honoring Mrs. Brewer will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 10:00am at Neil Chapel at Carillon. Interment will be on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 12:00pm at the O’Donnell Cemetery. The family would like to extend the invitation to a reception lunch after the internment at the First United Methodist Church in O’Donnell, Texas.
