Betty Whisenhunt, 90, of Lubbock, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, April 4, 2025. Betty was born on October 14, 1934, in Oaks, Oklahoma to the late Jim Slack and Rueta Onstott.
She grew up in the Oaks area and attended school there, graduating with her senior class at Oaks High School.
She met the love of her life, Carel Whisenhunt, Sr., and they were united in marriage on February 14, 1962, in Lubbock, where they lived until Mr. Whisenhunt preceded in death on December 21, 2016.
Betty was a homemaker and ran her own day care center at her home. She loved to go to garage sales and listen to Bluegrass and Gospel music.
Thos left to cherish and honor her memory include one son, Carel Whisenhunt, one daughter, Edie Davilla of Dripping Springs, Texas. Also surviving is 3 sisters, Peggy Wynn of Oaks, Oklahoma, Joyce Watts of Antlers, Oklahoma, and Doris Welch of Oaks, Oklahoma. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Dee Blair.
A visitation will be held from 10 AM until service time on Monday, April 14, 2025, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401. Funeral services will follow the visitation in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel at 2 PM. Final rites and interment will follow in the Englewood Cemetery in Slaton, under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
