Bill Ray Ivins of Lubbock passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the age of 90. He was born August 12, 1934, in Montague County, Texas to Charley and Jewel Ivins. Bill married Ruth McIntyre on September 7, 1954, in Bowie, Texas. She passed away on February 10, 1995. Several months later, Bill married Elda Prentice in Olton and they made their home in Lubbock in 1996 after his retirement.
Bill lived in the Spade, Hart Camp, Cotton Center, and Olton communities for many years. He worked in the cotton ginning industry for 48 years and was very well known, serving on numerous advisory boards. Bill was honored by the Texas Cotton Ginners’ Association in 2000, and awarded the Distinction of Life Membership.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 30 years, Elda; children, Linda Luckie and husband Pat, Glenn Ivins and wife Melissa, and Larry Ivins and wife Tina; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; Elda’s children, Carol Drew and Chris Prentice; five siblings, Jim Ivins, Gladys Burhans, J.C. Ivins, Virginia Ivins, and Roy Don Ivins; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth; and three siblings, Marshel Ivins, Edna Lois Ivins, and Lucy Edwards.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Monterey Baptist Church with funeral services beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Lubbock Meals on Wheels or a charity of your choice.
