Billie Jo Shuttlesworth, 92, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Billie was born on May 15, 1932, in Rossville, Walker County, Georgia to the late Ernest Lee Adair, Sr. and Ulilla Ione (Howard) Adair.
She attended Rossville High School in Georgia and graduated in 1950. Soon after graduation Billie married Robert (Bob) Shelton Mahan. In 1951 Bob was killed in a hunting accident. Billie then married Raymond Dale Pectol, Sr. They were married for 45 years until Alzheimer’s took his life. After being widowed twice she met and fell in love with Joe A. Shuttlesworth, and they married in November of 2003 at the Carillon Chapel, in Lubbock. After 20 years of late in life love, Joe passed away October 12. 2023.
Billie loved to play cards and watch the Cowboys and Mavericks, and the old Andy Griffith shows. She also loved watching her grandkids play sports or whatever their pursuits. In her early years she loved playing softball and maintained her interests in sports. She was a member of the Golden Rays at Monterey Church of Christ for many years. She and Joe were members of Sunset Church of Christ for the last 10 years.
She worked in various positions at Lubbock Christian University for 48 years, the last being the University Tour Director for 25 years. She retired in 2014 at the age of 82. Billie made you feel like the most special person in the room. She lived a life dedicated to giving, always seeing others’ needs ahead of her own. She was energetic, fun, kind and selfless. She would quite literally give you the jacket off her back and her face would light up every time she saw you. She had an enormous impact on college students and senior citizens alike. She was a true blessing to everyone she came in contact with, an inspiration of service. “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Proverbs 31:29
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her daughter, Sue Beene and Russell of Lubbock; a son, Raymond Dale Pectol, Jr. and Nanette of Lubbock; one brother, Truitt Adair and Kay of Lubbock and a sister, Jimmie Pectol and Ben of Phoenix, Arizona. Joe's children, Lynn Shuttlesworth and Diane, Dee Shuttlesworth and Diana, and daughter-in-law Pam Shuttlesworth. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a brother, Buster Adair and a sister, Martha Corriere.
A visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in the Chapel of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, TX.
