Billy Cummings

Billy Cummings, 67, of Idalou, and loving husband to Rhonda Cummings of over 21 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday night, December 18, 2024. Billy was born on July 10, 1957, in Slaton, Lubbock County, to the late Roby V. Cummings and Maggie Mae (Henderson) Cummings. 

Billy attended Estacado High School, where he graduated with his senior class of 1975.

He met the love of his life, Rhonda Cummings, and they were united in marriage on January 1, 2003, in Lubbock, Texas. 

Billy was a master of many crafts. He was a talented wood craftsman and potter. He was a founding member of the Lubbock Clay Guild and LEA. He had a love for making food too. He was known for his smoked meats, but mostly his pecan habanero brittle. Billy’s other passion was listening to live music and dancing with his love, Rhonda. Billy retired from a 45 year career at Sodexo.  He was a member of the Lone Star Cowboy Church.

Those left to honor and cherish Billy’s memory include his wife, Rhonda; children: Jeremy (Joy) Cummings of the Philippines, Jennifer Cummings of Dallas, Ryan (Bobby Sue) Monk of Lubbock, Resa (his favorite) Coit of Lubbock, Rance (Hollie) Monk of Ft. Worth. He also leaves behind his pride and joy of five granddaughters: Tahle Monk, Presley Coit, Brylie Monk, Emerie Monk, and Rosalie Monk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Billy was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Lonnie Cummings, Joe Roy Cummings and Thomas Gail Cummings; one sister, Myrtle Tarvin. Billy is also reunited with his favorite Jack Daniels, his dog J. D.

A time of reflection and visitation for Billy will be held from 4 PM to 6 PM on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Combest Family Funeral Homes Venue on Broadway, next to Combest Family Funeral Home, at 2202 Broadway. Celebration of Life Services will be announced by the family at a later time. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would love for you to comsider donating in Billy's memory, to the LUCA or to the Boys and Girls Club.
