Billy Joe Garrett, 68, passed away June 2, 2024, in Lubbock, TX. He was born October 28, 1955, to Thurman Lester and Margie Nan (Watley) Garrett, in Lubbock, TX. Billy graduated from Estacado High School, Lubbock. He worked for Lydick-Hooks Roofing for many years, where he was a supervisor.
Before retiring, Billy worked from “dark” until “dark-thirty”. He was the most complex yet simple man you would ever meet. Billy had a wild-horse spirit that couldn’t be broken. He loved animals, raising them, and taking in too many to count over the years. Billy jammed-out, loudly, to all genres of music; from Stevie Ray Vaughan to 2pac. He could make a friend anywhere he went by using his sharp wit or country boy charm.
Billy was a history buff and could tell you something about all things. He was the King of “redneck ingenuity”, he could use duct tape in more ways than you could imagine. Billy would read any book he could get his hands on, and he remembered everything he learned along the way. He never stopped missing his days of arrowhead hunting, camping and fishing with his kids, riding his horse (Wild Bill), or burning down the highway on his Harley Davidson.
Billy was preceded in death by his stoic father Lester, his precious mother Margie, beloved family members, friends, and faithful pets. Those remaining to cherish his many memories are, his daughters, Candy and Charity, his sons Shane and Robert, his grandbabies Taylor, Khenzi, Scout, Khoen, Khyler, and Todd; a brother, Rick, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Billy will be painfully missed and will always be loved beyond measure. He would never say goodbye, he would always say Adios.
