Blas S. Olivarez of Idalou passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at the age of 73. He was born May 26, 1949 in Lorenzo to Manuel and Trinidad (Sanchez) Olivarez. Blas attended New Deal High School and later made his home in Idalou. He married JoAnn (Guerrero) Torres on February 1, 2008. He retired from the gravel industry. Blas enjoyed watching old western movies, watching sporting events for Texas Tech and the Dallas Cowboys, but will be best remembered as a jokester.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, JoAnn of Idalou; children, Rickey Olivarez, Florinda Castillo (Bobby), Miguel Olivarez, and Mona Guzman; step-children, Julian Torres and Jose Torres (Jordan); grandchildren, Brandon Olivarez, Zachary Castillo, Amaya Torres, Maria Torres, and Javier Torres; sisters, Elidora Cardenas (Frank), Esperanza Ortega, and Seferina Duran (Tony); brothers, Ben Olivarez (Sonya), Andy Olivarez (Delia), Mario Olivarez (Belinda), and Carlos Olivarez (Isabel).
Rosary will be cited at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2022 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Idalou. Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church with inurnment to follow at Idalou Cemetery.
