With great sorrow, the family of Bobby Ray Barker, 72, of Lubbock, Texas, announce that on April 14th, 2023, the peaceful passing of a kind, funny, caring and unimaginably generous man. He had been surrounded by his family for many days who came together to honor his life.
Bobby was born September 15, 1950, in Lubbock, Texas, to “A.B.” Barker and Bettye Crabb. He was a loving and protective husband to Cherry Langford whom he married in Lubbock, TX on January 20th, 1990.
He always valued and demonstrated hard work and was employed many years at the Farmers Co-op Compress, Plains Co-op Oil Mill and Zahn’s Paving. He loved a good home cooked meal and you knew he liked you if he peppered you with a good-natured teasing. He loved his family and especially loved being with his grandchildren. He adored and doted on them and threw them high in the air while they screamed with delight. There may have been a few toes pulled as well. . .
Strong and capable, he always took care of family members, friends and neighbors over the years. He would do the dirtiest of tasks without any complaint if it meant helping someone he cared for. Bobby was always moving, working or chatting even in his last days. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends new and old. Cherry would like to thank Shane King, Jeff and Ronda Russell, Bob and Carol Forrester, Jayne K Boggs, Marye Isbell, James Russell, Toby Russell; the staff at Heritage Oaks Nursing Home for helping with Bobby’s care in the last few years. She would also like to thank all of the family that has given support and love.
He is survived by his wife Cherry Barker; children Skye Wagner and wife Yasmin, Ari Wagner and husband Brian, and Chrystal Spear and wife Stephanie; sisters Marye Isbell and husband Darrell, Suzy Scott and husband David, and Jayne K Boggs; grandchildren Isabel Wagner, Holden Wagner, Jackson White, Trenton Goodwin, Colton Goodwin and Uriyah Goodwin; great grandchildren, Miles and Asher Goodwin; along with numerous loved friends and family.
He is preceded in death by both parents, and brother Allen Barker III.
A graveside service is to be held April 29th at 10:00 a.m. at City of Lubbock Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Parkinson’s Foundation (Parkinson.org).
