Bobby Joe Chavez

Bobby Joe Chavez, 76, of Lubbock, and loving husband to Rosa Chavez, passed away on Thursday afternoon, September 19, 2024. He was born in Lubbock on February 4, 1948, to the late Ray Chavez and Olivia Villarreal.

He met Rosa Moreno, the love of his life, and they were united in marriage on January 5, 1968, in Lubbock, Texas, where they have lived all their lives.

Bobby served as the Superintendent for the City of Lubbock’s Parks and Recreation Department before retiring after 35 years of service. He loved oldies, but goodies music, crafting many things, such a furniture and décor. He was a die hard Dallas Cowboy’s fan. Bobby also enjoyed gardening and growing his own hot peppers and was a jack of all trades. Bobby has been a long-time member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory includes his wife, Rosa; his children, Margie Chavez, Jose Chavez and Nicole Chavez, all of Lubbock; a brother, David Chavez and wife JoAnne of San Antonio; two sisters: Patsy Valdez of Lubbock and Rita Flores and husband Joe of Dallas; four grandchildren: Adrian Chavez, Donte Chavez-Fay, Devin Chavez-Fay, Lorena Chavez; two great-grandchildren; Kamari Chavez-Fay and Leilani Chavez-Fay, as well as a host of extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Tony Chavez.

A visitation for Bobby will begin at 12 Noon until 8 PM on Monday, September 23, 2024, in the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, next door to Combest Family Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Deacon Joe Hernandez will be the Celebrant. Final rites and interment will follow Mass at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park, under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.

The pallbearers will be Adrian Chavez, Donte Chavez-Fay, Devin Chavez-Fay, John Camacho, Hijinio Moreno, III, and Anthony Cuneo. Kamari Chavez-Fay will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
