William "Boyd" Monk was born on October 21, 1958 to Norman Alison Monk, MD and Margaret Ann Boyd Monk, RN. Boyd married DK Moon Monk 35 years ago. They are proud parents of Jessica Richardson and grandparents of Jessica and Jason Richardson's daughters, Jade and Jillian. He is "Pops" to them. Boyd's sisters and brother, Julie Spradlin, Melissa Fralin and Mike McNeese, and Chip and Jennifer Monk, numerous cousins, nephews and nieces ("Uncle Bo" to them), and a multitude of close friends are overwhelmed with love for him.
Boyd graduated from Monterey High School and was a rabid Red Raider at Texas Tech where he earned a B.A. in History. Among so many accomplishments, Boyd owned Hub City Irrigation for decades and most recently, Monk Landscape Lighting & Irrigation. He loved Mother Earth and cherished caring for her. He was an avid, near scratch, golfer, and could shred a black diamond on the mountain. It remained over the years that the prizes in Boyd's life were DK and everyone in his family.
As friends and family heard that Boyd had died, the oft repeated response was, "he is such a kind person." Boyd and DK generously took in virtual strangers over the years, providing a helping hand, safe haven, and food to people who were down and out. Believing in the human potential, they opened their home and hearts, knowing that we get by with a little help from our friends.
Boyd was known as a loyal and kind man by all and, even though death has taken him from us, his spirit lives on. He is, and will continue to be, a large part of lives in so many ways. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for April 2, location is pending.
