Brent Murphy

Brent Roeder Murphy of Ira passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born September 15, 1935, in Snyder to Ed and Freida (Von Roeder) Murphy. On October 11, 1960, he married Sarah Patricia (Pat) Merriott. Other than three months when first married and the final three years of his life on earth, he spent his entire life on the home place, ranching and working the land. 

Brent graduated from Borden High School in their first graduating class. As a young man, he enjoyed calf roping and water skiing. Throughout his life, he enjoyed time visiting with friends and neighbors. He was also renowned for his practical jokes and mischief. 

He is survived by his sons, Ben Murphy of Midland and Michael Murphy of Borden County; grandchildren, Wes Murphy and wife Kim of Houston, Brady Murphy and wife Amanda of Cypress, and Macy Seale and husband Parker of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren, Kyler Murphy and Lane Murphy. 

Brent was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pat, in April of 2021. 

The family would like to thank Good Life Senior Living, West Texas Hospice and especially Christy Lay, Brenda Ubando and Dawn Myers for their care of “Father Murphy” during his twilight years. 

No visitation is planned. Private services will be held.
