Carroll Gene Snodgrass, 94, of Lubbock, was gently lifted into heaven on Saturday morning, December 7, 2024, surrounded by family. Gene was born on March 1, 1930, in Roby, Fisher County, Texas, to the late Samuel Snodgrass and Effie (White) Snodgrass. Soon after he was born, the family moved to Wilson, where he was raised. In his senior year in high school, his family settled in Lubbock, where he graduated in 1948.

After graduation, he served in the US Army for two years during the Korean Conflict, being deployed to Germany for most that time. Upon his return from serving his country, Gene attended electrical school in Lubbock.

Gene met Betty June Arnold, the love of his life, and they were united in marriage on February 23, 1952. They were married for 60 years before she passed in 2012. Together they had two children, Phillip and Judy. Gene then married Alice Mills on August 30, 2012, and she passed away in 2015.

He worked as a postal letter carrier for the USPS for 35 years. Following his career with the post office, he worked as the Maintenance Supervisor for the local DPS office for 12 years, retiring in the 1990’s.

Gene’s interests included sports, music, politics and he was devout in his faith. He was a faithful member of Sunset Church of Christ for over 50 years. He served as a greeter at Sunset for over 30 years.

Those left to honor and cherish Gene’s memory include his son, Phillip (Susan) Snodgrass of East Lansing, Michigan; son-in-law, Russell Young of Lubbock; three grandchildren: Chelsea (Bryan) Miller of Seattle, Chad Snodgrass of Royal Oak, Michigan and Zachary Young of Lubbock; two great grandchildren: Reese and Brooke Miller of Seattle. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Betty and Alice; his daughter, Judy Young; three sisters: Lillian Cummings, Letha Kendrick and Lois Nichols; and three brothers: Hollis, W.
