Cary Don Winterrowd passed away peacefully at his home in Lubbock on December 23, 2023. He was known for his loving and caring nature, as well as his humble personality. Cary Don will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Cary was born in Big Spring, Texas to Ross and Sarah (Stroup) Winterrowd on July 13, 1946.
Cary was enlisted in military service and served in the army during the Vietnam War. As a paratrooper and sharpshooter, he bravely served his country. During this time, Cary Don encountered Agent Orange, which left a lasting impact on his health. Despite facing adversity, he never lost his positive outlook on life and remained determined to make a difference.
Cary worked in agriculture, which played a significant role in Cary Don's life, and he also found solace in other interests. He was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers baseball team and could often be found watching their games. Cary also enjoyed playing rounds of golf, and even did a little wood-working in his spare time.
Above all else, Cary Don valued family and cherished every moment spent with loved ones. He possessed a warmth and kindness that drew people to him, making him a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His ability to connect with others on a deep level was a testament to his genuine and caring nature.
Cary is preceded in death by his brothers, Lonnie Winterrowd and Dennis Winterrowd; and sister, Linda Laughlin.
Left to cherish Cary's memory is his wife of 52 years, Vickie (Redding) Winterrowd; daughters, Robyn Marquez and husband Gabe, and Stefanie Winterrowd; grandchildren, Brianna, Cary Don, Jenna, Hannah, and Sarah; great-granddaughter, Eleanor; sisters-in-law, Mary Winterrowd and Dawn Winterrowd; brother-in-law Chester Redding; nephews, Lance Winterrowd, Kyle and Craig Collinsworth, and Brian and Taylor Redding; and niece, Julie Quade.
In honor of Cary Don's life, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 1:00PM, at the First Baptist Church in Lubbock. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate the remarkable man he was. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory inspire us all to live with the same love, care, and humility that defined Cary Don Winterrowd's extraordinary life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Texas State Veteran's Cemetery.
