Charlene Shofner

February 28, 1946 — February 16, 2025

Lubbock

Charlene Sherrod Shofner won her race and is now walking again with our Lord and Savior in Heaven. She passed on Sunday morning, February 16, 2025, after a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Anyone who knew her would immediately agree that she was the most gracious and friendly soul. She always had a smile on her face and a sincere concern for others, never complaining despite her own pain or struggles. Those fortunate enough to know her never doubted that they were better for it.

Charlene was born on February 28, 1946, as the youngest daughter of Jennings Bryan and Maudie Pearl Sherrod in Acuff, Texas.

She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, where she was a varsity basketball player. She met her soulmate, Presley Shofner, for the first time in March of 1961, over a potato bin at the local Piggly Wiggly. Their first date was the following Saturday to see Barefoot in the Park, marking the beginning of their 63- year journey together. They married on Saturday, June 20, 1964, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past year.

Charlene worked as a realtor in Lubbock for a few years before joining the insurance agency Presley started, where they worked side by side for the next 25 years. She was also deeply involved in her community, serving as a Board Member and President of the Lubbock Women’s Chamber of Commerce, as well as President of the Women’s Golf Association at Lubbock Country Club. Before her physical limitations, Charlene was an avid painter and golfer, winning her division in the Lubbock Country Club Women’s Championship twice. She loved to travel, exploring many places throughout Europe with Presley, but most of all cherished family trips—fishing and camping on different lakes and in the mountains with Presley and their boys.

Charlene is survived by her husband, Presley; her sons, Bryan Shofner of Dallas and Shawn Shofner and his wife, Rashael, of Lubbock; and her five cherished grandchildren, Taylor, Landon, Parker, Aubrey, and Addison.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Shofner, Shawn Shofner, Taylor Shofner, Landon Shofner, Parker Gainey, and Jake Denson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be David Ritter, Richard Adams, and Harley Shofner.

The family invites you to a time of sharing memories beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Venue on Broadway (2202 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401). Services will begin immediately following the time of fellowship, with burial to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
