Charlie Holland

Charlie Holland, 80, of Tahoka, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022.  Charlie was born on February 21, 1942, in Lubbock, to the late Wade Aubrey Holland and Frances Evelyn “Dude” McCoy.

Charlie met the love of his life, Toy Sue Gandy, and they were married in Tahoka on August 1, 1969.

Charlie attended and graduated from Tahoka High School.  He then attended Texas Tech University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education.  He was a teacher of Texas history and was a coach for many years, retiring in 2006, after more than 20 years.  Following retirement, he taught GED classes at Giles-Dalby Correctional Facility in Post.  He loved to golf, watch baseball and was very family oriented.  He was a member of Tahoka Trinity Church, of which he served on the board for many years.  He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy.

Those left to cherish and honor his memory include his wife, Toy; one son, Adam Holland and his wife Chasity of Lubbock; one daughter, Amy King and her husband Terral of Canyon, six grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wade Aubrey Holland, Jr.

A time of visitation and reflection for Charlie will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Combest Family Funeral Home in Tahoka.  Funeral services will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Tahoka Trinity Church, in Tahoka.  Rev. Perry Shuffield will be the officiant.  Final rites and interment will be held in the Nevels Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.

Pallbearers will be Eric Gandy, Casey Gandy, Tony Botkin, Joby Long, Raymond Lara and Kevin Hood.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Charlie’s memory be made to the Tahoka Trinity Church.
