Christine Askew, 93, of Lubbock and formerly of Tahoka, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 11, 2024. Christine was born on January 18, 1931, in Lubbock, to the late William Martin and Mayme (Bevers) Martin.
She attended Brownfield High School. She met the love of her life, Arlys Lynell Askew, and they were united in marriage on November 15, 1947, in Brownfield. Mr. Askew preceded her in death on March 30, 2024.
Christine was a farmer and a farmer’s wife, who dedicated her life to her family. She and her late husband raised cotton in Lynn, Lamb, and Terry counties. Through the years she helped in many ways from hauling trailers to the gin to operating the module builder. She loved to play bridge, fish and had a fisherman’s heart, play golf and travel. She was known for her excellent cooking and authored her own cookbook, “Symphony of Flavors.”
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include a daughter, Debbie (Bobby) Caswell of Lubbock; a son-in-law, Jim Weeks of Lamesa; her grandchildren: Brandie (Matt) Hudson of Tahoka, Bryan Inklebarger of Tahoka, Ben Caswell of Tomball, and Dr. Clay (Jennie) Caswell of Blacksburg, VA; her great-grandchildren: Brooke (Stephen) Rodriguez, Bryson (Bianca) Resendez, Cason Resendez, Connor Caswell, Levi Caswell, Abby Caswell, and Daniel Inklebarger; her great-great granddaughters: Madyson Rodriguez and Mckynlie Rodriguez; a sister-in-law, Ruth Martin of Midland and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter Sirita Kay Weeks, a brother Alton Martin and a sister Virginia Brock.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Alexander Yepe, Janie Gonzales and Frannie Thiel of Caprock Home Health Care for the loving care they gave her. Also, a big thanks to the staff at Raider Ranch and to Interim Hospice for their dedicated care to her.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Tahoka, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Rev. Bill Fuller will be the officiant. Private burial will be held in the Nevels Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that memorials be sent, in Christine’s memory, to Smile Train, PO Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148, First Baptist Church of Tahoka, 1701 Avenue K, Tahoka, TX 79373, or to a charity of one’s choice.
