Clarence Edward Mason, 98, resident of Lubbock since 1980, passed away on November 10, 2023.  Mr. Mason was born on November 21, 1924, in White Point, Concho County, Texas, to the late William Harry Mason and Maggie Henrietta (Williams) Mason.

Clarence attended Snyder High School, where he graduated with the senior class of 1942.  He joined the United States Army, where he served in France during World War II in active duty in 1944 and 1945.  During that time, he was wounded and received the distinguished Purple Heart award.

He met Sondra Vanette Wagnon, the love of his life, and they were married on December 8, 1951.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army in September of 1945, he became active in ranching and farming, along with raising cattle in the Muleshoe area.  In 1978, he left the farm and went back to school and obtained his real estate broker’s license.  He attended South Plains College, where he graduated with an Associates Degree in Real Estate.  He was active in real estate and taught real estate classes at South Plains College part time, along with two charter schools until his retirement when he was around 85 years of age.

Clarence loved to read in his spare time, which he didn’t have much of, but he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.  He has been a long-time member of Quaker Avenue Church of Christ.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Sondra; two daughters:  Linda Dunn and her husband Bryan of Lubbock and Lisa Sneed and her husband Frank of Colleyville; three grandchildren:  Joni McDoniel and her husband Chet, Jonathan Sneed, Jamie Jones and her husband Tyler; six grandchildren:  Hannah McDoniel, Olivia McDoniel, Ellie McDoniel, Maggie Jones, Fletcher Jones and Samantha Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ed Mason; three brothers:  Bill Mason, Raymond Mason and Raleigh Mason; two sisters:  Velma McCulley and Della Herring.

A time of reflection and visitation for Clarence will be held from 10:00AM to 11:00AM on November 17, 20023 at Combest Family Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway in Lubbock. A funeral service will follow at 11:00AM on November 17, 2023 at the Combest Family Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Graveside service to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park with, Mr. David Langford officiating, under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Frank Sneed, Bryan Dunn, Jonathan Sneed, Tyler Jones, Jack Terry, and Brooks Herring.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations, in memory of Clarence, be made to the Lubbock Regional Veterans Honor Guard, c/o American Legion Post #500, 314 Main Street, Abernathy, TX 79311, or to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130.
