Clemencia “Margie” Valdez, 86, of Lubbock, and loving companion of Gilbert Mendez, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, September 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Margie was born on November 23, 1937, in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, to the late Bernabe Valdez and Bartola (Gomez) Valdez.
Margie loved to go to casinos and gamble…her favorite was the one-armed bandits or the slot machines. She also enjoyed watching Spanish soap operas on television. She was a sales associate for 40 years at Stewart’s Jewelry and worked for A-Acme Pawn Shop. Margie was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lubbock.
Those left to honor and cherish Margie’s memory include her long-time partner, Gilbert Mendez; and one son, Robert Ledbetter of Dallas; nieces and nephews: Alberto Espinosa, Esmeralda Espinosa, Enelda Annette Villanueva, Angelica Najar, Micaela Garzes, Bernabe Valdez, III, Cynthia Valdez Sanchez, Omar Valdez, Delilah Valdes Diaz, Yolanda Valdez, Rachel Valdez Romo and Arnold Rene Valdez; a sister-in-law, Susana Valdez; a bonus son: Chris Mendez (Ruby) and their children. Margie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Natividad Valdez and Bernabe Valdez, Jr.; and one sister, Felicitas Valdez; a niece, Monica Valdez and a nephew, Roger Lopez.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2221 Avenue W, Lubbock TX. Pastor Charles Nemec, of Redeemer Lutheran Church, will be the officiant for the service. Cremation will follow under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
The pallbearers will be Bernabe Valdez, III, Alberto Espinoza, Jr., Chris Mendez, Ryan Valdez, Rick Villanueva and Andrew Munoz.
