Clovis Lee Battey, 86, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, December 26, 2021. Lee was born on September 2, 1935, in Floydada, Texas to the late Lewis Clark Battey and Ethel Mae (Musgrave) Battey.
He met and married Mary Roper, the love of his life, on February 6, 1959, in Lubbock, and together they have celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Lee attended Lubbock High School, graduating as an adult from Lubbock Evening High School in 1970. Lee was a master carpenter, working for various builders in Lubbock before he and his wife moved to Victoria, Texas in 1971. While in Victoria, Lee worked for Koenig Construction for 29 years as a finish carpenter of custom homes, before retiring in 1999. Many examples of his carpentry expertise can be found in Central Church of Christ and Blythe Road Church of Christ in Victoria. While in Victoria, Lee was active in church, boy scouts, fishing clubs, school activities and hunting with his sons and friends. In 2000, he and Mary moved back to Lubbock. After retirement, he and Mary loved to travel extensively across the continental United States, Hawaii and Alaska. He was an avid TV watcher, loved watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Tech and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Using his unique talent and trade as a master carpenter, he was involved in doing carpentry work for his church home in Lubbock. Lee was a member of Sunset Church of Christ for the last 21 years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary; two sons, Earl Lee Battey and his wife Cheryl of Plano, and Major Corey Battey, who recently retired from the military and moved to Lubbock to care for his parents; one brother, Lewis Battey and his wife Sue, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 2 grandchildren, Kyle and Kaleb, 6 nieces and 6 nephews who were well loved, and one special sister by marriage, Juanice Standifer of Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Dena Rae Battey in 1972; two brothers, C. W. Battey of Victoria and George Battey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four sisters, Lila Gray of Belton, Laverne Harrell of Hobbs, New Mexico, Evalena Castleberry and Mary Stubbs of Lubbock, and one special brother-in-law, Jerry Standifer.
Visitation for Lee will be from 2 PM to 8 PM on Monday, January 3, 2022, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel, with family receiving friends from 5 PM to 7 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel, with Monty Pettyjohn officiating. Burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Battey, Kaleb Battey, Ken Quigley, James Langdon, Justin Florence and Ray Espinoza. Honorary pallbearer will be Brendon Standifer.
