Connie Jean McIlroy, 88, of Lubbock, and wife of the former Dr. Howard McIlroy, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday afternoon, surrounded by her loving family. Connie was born in Lovington, NM on October 19, 1936, to the late Wycht Jackson and Lena Juanita (Newberry) Jackson. She grew up in Levelland, TX and graduated from Levelland High School in 1955. She furthered her education by attending Texas Tech University, from 1955 to 1957, studying education.
She met the love of her life, Dr. Howard McIlroy, and they were united in marriage on May 20, 1983, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Dr. McIlroy preceded her in death on February 14, 2014.
Connie worked side by side with her husband taking care of patients in his clinic, and thereafter helping people with their allergies and nutritional needs. She also served as his office manager for over 25 years. After Howard’s retirement, due to his ailing health, Connie cared for him the last eight years of his life.
Connie was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain friends and family. She excelled in needlepoint and crewelwork and developed many original designs. She was an accomplished seamstress and taught many people to sew. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Lubbock.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory include a daughter, Mindy Hatch and her husband Les of Lubbock, a son John McIlroy and his wife Christie of Lubbock; a sister, Bonnie Brown of Kerrville, TX and her son Chris Brown and his wife Margie of Arizona; four grandchildren: Hayden Hatch of Lubbock, Bonnie Hatch Caldwell and husband Cody of Dallas and their child Arthur, Hannah Morgan of Lubbock, Leia McIlroy of Lubbock; step-daughter Sharon McIlroy of Georgetown, TX, step-son Gary McIlroy and his wife Dee of La Grange, TX, and their children Zachary and wife Sarah of Austin and their four children, and Meagan McIlroy Talent and husband Zackary and their daughter, of Princeton, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband David Morgan, her husband Howard McIlroy, and son, Michael David Morgan.
As per her wishes, there will be no formal service.
