Consuelo “Connie” Peralez Sanchez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on March 3, 2025, at the age of 87. She was born on May 23, 1937, in Martindale, Texas, to the late Vidal Peralez Sr. and Bernadina Rangel Peralez.
Consuelo was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Juanita F. Peralez, her daughter, Gloria Sanchez, her great-grandson, Ryan Avery Soliz, and her siblings, Vidal Peralez Jr., Adam Peralez, Felimon Peralez, Benjamin Peralez, Anita P. Sanchez, Yolanda P. Ramirez, and Delia P. Baltierra.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years, Juan Vargas Sanchez Sr.; her daughter, Dorothy Sosa (Walter); and her seven sons: Alvin Sanchez (Guadalupe), Tony Sanchez (Sandi), Juan Sanchez Jr. (Dinora), Chris Sanchez (Tommie), Vidal Sanchez (Cesilia), Kennith J. Sanchez (Gabey), and Maxcimino Sanchez (Derek). She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Consuelo married Juan on January 16, 1953, in Martindale, Texas, and together they built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering strength. She was known for her caring heart, always opening her home to anyone in need and taking great care of her siblings and family. A dedicated caregiver, she worked in various care facilities, offering comfort and kindness to those she served.
She was direct and pragmatic in a way that was both necessary and loving—never one to sugarcoat but always coming from a place of deep care. Her family will fondly remember her for her wisdom, resilience, and the warmth of her kitchen, where she made her famous tortillas until the age of 86. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking in as many garage sales as possible. She was a member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista Church in Idalou for many years.
The pallbearers will be Alvan-Bidal Sanchez, Xaine Soliz, Keanu Sanchez, Patrick Sanchez, Jacob Sanchez, Gustavo Sanchez, Garett Sosa, Baby J (Johnny Ray Acosta, Jr.), and Nolan Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be Bianca Sanchez, Stephanie Weiss, Anissa Serbin, Rebekah Powell, Crystel Soliz, Sarah Aguilar, and Mariah Sanchez.
Consuelo’s love and guidance will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A time of reflection and visitation for Connie will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, next to Combest Family Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Venue on Broadway. Leading the family oriented service will be her son in law, Derek Sanchez. Final rites and interment will follow in the Idalou Cemetery, in Idalou, Texas, under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the Sanchez family kindly ask that you consider memorial donations, in Connie’s memory, be sent to Hospice of Lubbock, 3702 21st Street, Lubbock, TX 79410. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Hospice of Lubbock for the loving care and support they gave to Connie.
