Cora Newton, 80, long-time resident of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, August 19, 2022. Cora was born on August 2, 1942, in Big Spring, Howard County, Texas, to the late Victor E. Wilson and Carmen E. (King) Wilson.
She attended and graduated from Denver City High School in 1960. Following graduation, she married the love of her life, Charles Newton, on May 26, 1961, in Denver City, Texas.
Cora was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her beloved family. She enjoyed camping, traveling, sewing, and working puzzles.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory include her husband, Charles of Lubbock; three sons, Keith Newton and his wife Donna of Lubbock, James Newton and his wife Jamie of Lubbock, and Michael Newton and his wife Cristina of Lubbock; one sister, Ruth Grossner of Austin; three grandchildren, Stephanie Sandoval, Colby Newton, and Anthony Newton; one great-grandchild, Jackson Sandoval. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Victor Wilson.
A time of reflection and visitation for Mrs. Newton will be Wednesday, August 24, 2022, from 10 AM to 2 PM, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Carl Hamilton and Talus Murphy will be the officiants. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Newton, Colby Newton, Jackson Sandoval, Albert Tarpley, Edwin Smith, and Jack Drake.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Cora’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation of West Texas, 3801 19th Street, Suite 402, Lubbock, TX 79410.
