Coye Lee Burton, 79, passed from this life on January 27, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. Coye was born in Coleman, Texas on September 13, 1945, to his parents, Chester and Blanche Burton.
Coye grew up in Big Spring, TX, graduating from Big Spring High School in 1964. He was in the Junior High and High School band. After high school, Coye attended Abilene Christian University for 3 years before enlisting in the Air Force. He spent most of his Air Force years in Guam, during the Vietnam conflict. Coye was raised by godly parents who taught him to love the Lord. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Ann Burton of Lubbock, TX; a son, David Audy Burton and wife Samantha (Flanary) Burton of Lubbock, TX; sister, Melva Burton Toy and husband Thomas Toy of Marshall, TX; granddaughters, Alyssa and husband Brandon Wianecki of Plano, TX and Amberly and husband Jordan Polk of Idalou, TX; great-granddaughters Emersyn Wianecki, Kynadi and Sage Polk; nephews Thomas Toy, Jr. and wife Sandy of Abilene, TX, Shannon Toy of New Braunfels, TX, and Adam Toy and wife Amy of Terrell, TX; nieces Abigail Toy, Emily Toy, Rebekah Toy, Alexa Toy, and Addison Toy.
The viewing will be at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 US-277, in Abilene, TX, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 5 PM to 7 PM. Graveside military services will be at 11 AM on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road, in Abilene. Final rites and interment will be under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home of Lubbock and Elmwood Funeral Home of Abilene.
For the past several years, Coye had lived in Brady, TX. He was an interesting and unique man who had many interests and was very musically talented. He will be missed.
