Darlene Louise Gurley, 95, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and formerly of Tahoka, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022. She was born on March 9, 1927, in Southland, Garza County, Texas to the late Emil C. Wilke and Ida A. Brieger.
Darlene and her family lived in the New Lynn community for many years. She attended and graduated from Tahoka High School, and then attended Draughon's Business College in Lubbock. She married Walter West (Dub) Gurley on November 23, 1946.
She worked for the First National Bank in Tahoka as a bank teller for over 24 years. She also worked for Lyntegar Electric Cooperative in Tahoka for 8 years. Darlene retired in June of 1984. She did volunteer work with the American Heart Association and was involved with the Pythian Sisters in Tahoka, as well as being an election worker in Lynn County. Darlene loved gardening, sewing and taking care of her numerous live turtles. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wilson, Texas.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Ricky Gurley and his wife Carla of Bixby, Oklahoma and Randall Gurley and his wife Polly of Warrenton, Missouri; four grandchildren, Amber Cohen and her husband Jamie of Kirkwood, MO, Brent Gurley and Taryn Numi of St. Louis, MO, Aaron Gurley and his wife Mary of Olathe KS, and Jared Gurley and his wife Ashley of Hudson Oaks, TX; ten great-grandchildren; one niece, Lillie Wright of Lubbock; two nephews, Lloyd May of Lubbock and Robert Wilke of Post. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter West (Dub) Gurley, brother Reuben Wilke, two sisters: Florene May and Alvera Higginbotham, and one nephew GB Wilke.
A time of reflection and visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, June 9, 2022, in the Oak Crest Suite of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, June 10, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church, 1305 Dickson Avenue in Wilson, Texas. Pastor Tonda Freitag will be the officiant. Final rites and interment will follow in the Green Memorial Park Cemetery in Wilson, under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Wright, Lloyd May, Robert Wilke, Aaron Gurley, Jared Gurley and Brent Gurley.
