David Marcus Davidson

October 19, 1968 — April 21, 2025

Lubbock

David Marcus Davidson was born October 19, 1968, in Memphis Texas to Danny and Linda (Saye) Davidson. He graduated from Memphis High School in 1987 and held two associate degrees from Clarendon College (which he counted as his one bachelor degree). He passed suddenly from this life to be with Jesus on April 21, 2025, in Lubbock Texas.

David married Lori Johnson Davidson in February 1992, and they recently celebrated 33 years together. They are the parents of two sons – Dylan and Ty. David and Lori lived in Childress, TX for 28 years and lived in Lubbock, TX for the last five years. After his relationship with Jesus, his family was the most important thing to him. He loved intensely and hard and no one ever doubted his commitment to them.

David’s passion was raising cattle. When he was 10 years old, he borrowed $1500 to buy three cows and 44 years later shipped his last load of cattle to semi-retire. He was a horseman and a cowman, a range specialist and loved the dark nights of the quiet country with the stars shining bright. David not only ranched, but performed multiple jobs to fill his time: he drove a semi-truck, he sold feed, he was an auctioneer, he was a youth minister at the Childress Methodist church, he sold parts at the John Deere house, he worked at the Lubbock Children’s Home and most recently performed cattle and equipment inspections for local banks. David was always on the move and looking for the next adventure.

His mantra was “Carpe Diem – Seize the Day.” He was an avid golfer, raced motorcycles, got his private pilot’s license, and recently bought his first chuckwagon to use to cook for others as an act of service.

David was a storyteller. One of Lori’s co-workers said that whenever he heard David’s voice in the office he instantly knew a few things: he wasn’t to get any work done for the next 45 minutes to an hour, and he was going to hear a funny story, and always be left with a takeaway, either something he could learn from or something to think about.

David was a friend to everyone he met. It took hours to get through the pig barns at the stock shows because he knew everyone or met someone new. He never met a stranger and was a mentor and friend to a wide swath of people wherever he went. He had a list of about 20 friends that he called every one or two weeks to check on them and make sure they were doing good. His heart had room for everyone.

David was preceded in death by his grandparents Willie Bob and Josephine Davidson and O.R. and Connie Saye and his cousin, Sloan Davidson. He is survived by his parents, Danny and Linda Davidson of Estelline, Tx; his wife, Lori of the home; his sons, Dylan of Fort Worth and Ty of College Station; a sister Danna and her husband Philip of Lakeview; an uncle and aunt, Mike and Susan Davidson of Estelline; a mother-in-law, Judy Johnson of Childress; a sister-in-law, Lynn and her husband Doug of Childress; multiple nieces and nephews and their spouses, Jacob and Erica Hancock, Colleen and Ky Schoenenberger, Rachel and Scott Lass, Ellis and Ashley Mercer, Cameran Daniel and Corbin Daniel and seven great-nieces and nephews with another on the way in June. He is also survived by a special family friend, Jerry McCracken who the Davidson family adopted as their own.

A celebration of David’s is life will be held April 26th at 2:00 pm at the Kingdom Co-op building, 2005 Ave T, Lubbock TX, 79411. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kingdom Co-op where David and Lori worship, serve and build community. Venmo: @kingdomco-op.
