Deen Jackson

Alfred “Deen” Jackson, 89, and life-long resident of the Lubbock area, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  Deen was born on December 4, 1934, in Lubbock, Texas, to the late Alfred Joseph Jackson and Lottie Elizabeth (Rogers) Jackson. 

He attended New Deal schools and graduated from New Deal High School in 1953.  He went on to attend Texas Tech University, graduating with a Bachelor of Business in Education in 1957.

Deen met the love of his life, Sandra Pharr, and they were united in marriage on December 20, 1978, at Parkway Drive Church of Christ, in Lubbock. 

Deen grew up farming and has farmed since he was ever so little.  He also taught school at Slaton, New Deal, Shallowater, Lubbock Cooper, Petersburg and Amherst.  He worked as a crop insurance adjuster for approximately 40 years.  He worked for Rain & Hail, American Ag, and RCIS, before retiring in 2022.   Deen’s favorite work was being a crop insurance adjuster, who loved meeting and helping people out.  When he started teaching, he became involved in photography and took pictures at sporting events and other items of interest.   He and his wife, Sandra, have been members of Sunset Church of Christ for approximately 30 years.  Prior to joining Sunset Church of Christ, he was a member of the New Deal Church of Christ and Parkway Drive Church of Christ.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Sandy; two sons:  Robert Jackson and wife Karon of Hollis, Oklahoma and John Jackson and his wife Lori of Plano; one daughter, Julie Crowl and husband Jerry of Morse, Texas; a stepson, Brett Lawrence of Baird, Texas; a stepdaughter, Loris Patton-Hogan and husband Nick Hogan, of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents many years ago.

A visitation for Deen will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Combest Family Funeral Homes Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock.  Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in the Abernathy I. O. O. F. Cemetery, in Abernathy. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will follow at 2 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Combest Family Funeral Homes Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock.  Truitt Adair, of Sunset Church of Christ, will be the officiant.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Crowl, John Jackson, Brett Lawrence, Jayton Lawrence, Dustin Adams and Jerry Crowl.   The honorary pallbearer will be Robert Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Deen’s memory, be made to Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI), 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410.
