Dewey “Tootie” Engle, 84, of Tahoka, passed away on Tuesday night, August 8, 2023.  Dewey was born in Tahoka, Lynn County, Texas, on February 11, 1939, to the late A. B. Engle and Nellie (Stanley) Engle.

He attended school and received his education in Grandview, Texas.

Dewey met the love of his life, Donna Jones, and they were married on November 5, 1959, in Wilson, Texas.  Donna preceded him in death on January 1, 2017.

Dewey loved and adored his grandchildren and was a true family man in all sense of the word.  He loved to build bird houses and watch one of his favorite TV shows, Storage Wars.  Dewey worked for TxDOT for 27 years, retiring in 1996 as a TxDOT foreman.  He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after serving in Germany from September 30, 1963, to April 25, 1965, during the Korean Conflict.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include two daughters:  Jana Engle and her husband Dennis Hamann of Tahoka and Dena Oliphint and her husband Bryan of Spur; three sons:  Charlie Engle and his wife Debbie of Tahoka, Danny Engle and his wife Sylvia of Fritch, and David Engle and his wife Buffy of Seagraves; one brother, Sammy Engle of Andrews.  Dewey also leaves behind nine grandchildren:  Britni Hardage and her husband Dax, Chris Engle, Trista Whitfield and her husband Dustin, Bretton Engle and his wife Jordan, Bayle Jolly, Slade Hamann, Reece Hamann, Reagan Mullins and Owen Mullins; seven great-grandchildren:  Logan Engle, Rilan Hardage, Zoey Hardage, Daniel Guillory, Jamie Guillory, Cason Engle and Camden Engle.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers and four sisters.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 3 PM on Friday, August 11, 2023, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel in Tahoka.  Dax Hardage will be the officiant for the service.  Memorial services and cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory of Tahoka.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the Lynn County Hospital District, 2600 Lockwood Street, Tahoka, TX 79373.
