Lubbock

Diane Lynn Smith Martinez of Lubbock, TX passed away at age 72 on November 24, 2023.  Known as “Di” to her family and friends, she was born on April 28, 1951 in San Angelo, TX.  The Smith family moved to Lubbock when Diane was young.  She graduated from Cooper High School in 1969 and completed her collegiate studies at Texas Tech University with a degree in Fashion and Merchandising.  She worked for the Lubbock County Adult Probation Office her entire career.

On a snowy February 22, 1975, she married Gilbert Martinez at Lubbock View Christian Church.  They had three children and countless pets.  While many people knew her for her famous peanut brittle, she often made her family some of the best dishes, like carne quisada, snickerdoodles, banana bread, and rice, broccoli, and cheese casserole.  A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Diane was a beautiful soul who always focused on her family and loved to garden.

Diane is preceded in death by her parents, Donald Lynn Smith, Sr. and Laura Jean Smith of Lubbock.  She is survived by her husband, Gilbert, three adoring children, Jennifer Frost of Dallas, TX (husband Chris), Justin Martinez of Orlando, FL (wife Candace), Jarrod Martinez of Lubbock, granddaughter Isabel Frost, and siblings Karen Groce of Midland (husband Wayne), Donald Lynn Smith, Jr. of Lubbock (wife Debbie), Cindy of Granbury (husband Kim), and Suzy Smith of San Angelo.

A time of visitation will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Venue on Broadway from 5PM-7PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the Venue on Broadway beginning at 2PM.
