Donna Gayle Chiles passed away on September 30, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas. Donna was born on April 20, 1948, in Waxahachie, Texas to Robert and Dorothy Chiles as an only child. She finished 2nd grade in public school, and then had to stop attending school due to an illness. Donna was not allowed to return to school, so she began teaching herself. Being a curious and observant person, she was able to teach herself well. Donna lost her mother at the age of 13, and later lost her father, causing her to move and live in Canton, Texas. After living in Canton, she lived in a group home in Fort Worth, then eventually relocated to the South Plains.
Donna lived in group homes in Abernathy and Lubbock before moving to the Lubbock Hospitality House. She was a valued employee of several years that made hangers, cleaned, and swept at Marian Moss Enterprises. Donna learned a lot during her time with Marian Moss and enjoyed the people that she worked with. She had many friends which she considered to be family, and was a Christian.
At Lubbock Hospitality House, Donna enjoyed crafting, parties, bingo, church, and visiting with anyone that she could. She often made laps around the building introducing herself, encouraging residents, and showing new residents the ropes. She looked after others and even called for assistance when needed, she was always concerned with others’ safety, and was always ready with prayers and hugs, especially hugs. Donna was a Barnabas in many ways.
