Doris Mae Chorn was born on September 26, 1923 in Port Arthur, Texas, the oldest child of David Joseph and Isabelle Hebert. She received her RN degree from St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur and served at McCloskey Army Hospital in the U.S. Army Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII. It was there that she met her husband James Charles Chorn, an Army medic, from Hermleigh, Texas. She was a gifted painter and avid gardener who loved her family and her little schnauzers dogs.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Burns and husband Robert of Amarillo and Charlotte Dunham of Lubbock; sister, Gertrude York of Sugarland; three brothers, Jimmy, Thomas and Edward Hebert; two granddaughters, Carmen Grillo and Cara Idol; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Bryce.
Visitation will begin Monday, September 16, 2013 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
