Dorothy “Dolly” Allen Cooke Green died on December 15, 2013 in Lubbock, Texas after a brief illness. She was born March 10, 1936 to Dorothy Allen and Hugh Brent Cooke, Jr. in Memphis, Tennessee. Dolly graduated from East High School in Memphis, TN and earned a B.A. in History from Southwestern at Memphis (Rhodes College), graduating with honors. She was a member of the sorority Alpha Omega Pi and served as the treasurer.
After graduating from college and teaching for three years, Dolly married Bruce Green in 1961. Dolly and Bruce lived in Tennessee, Missouri, and Texas and Dolly enjoyed her time in each of these places. Education was important to Dolly and she spent much of her working life trying to make education available to others through teaching or other support services. Dolly also served her community through many ministries of the Episcopal Church. She held a variety of offices in the Episcopal Church Women, St. Hilda’s Guild, served on altar guild, and on the board of St. Luke’s Nursing Home.
Dolly is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bruce Green; three daughters, Bess Green and husband Eric Stimmell of Austin, Texas, Jennifer German and husband Paul German of Waco, Texas, and Carolyn Perry and husband Sequoyah Perry, Jr. of Lubbock; and six grandchildren. She is also survived by her bothers Hugh Brent Cooke, III of Memphis, TN and Chester Allen Cooke and his wife Sarah "Dee" of College Park, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of her life will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Memorials can be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital or your favorite charity.
