Dorothy Deanne Horton, known fondly as MeMaw & MeMe, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023, in Lubbock, TX. She was born on December 23, 1944, in Duncan, Oklahoma to her loving parents L.B. and Dean Jones. Dorothy's contagious laughter and quick wit brought joy to the lives of everyone around her.
Deanne had a vibrant personality that drew people towards her. She had a deep well of love for others, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who held a special place in her heart. Her kind and nurturing nature made her the go-to person for advice and comfort.
One of Deanne's greatest joys was traveling. She loved exploring new places, and the memories she created on these journeys will forever be cherished. Some of her favorite trips included visiting Sulphur Oklahoma where she marveled at stunning waterfalls, adventuring to Turner Falls, and uncovering the historical significance of Fort Richardson.
In addition to her passion for travel, Deanne had a creative soul. She found solace in the pages of books and could often be found engrossed in a riveting novel. Her appreciation for the arts extended beyond reading as she also delighted in various crafts.
Gardening was another one of Deanne's passions. In the flower bed of her backyard oasis, she nurtured a thriving sanctuary filled with vibrant blooms that mirrored her zest for life. Deanne possessed a green thumb that brought beauty to the world around her.
Furthermore, Deanne dedicated many years of her life working in daycares where she impacted the lives of countless children. Her caring demeanor nurtured young minds and created an atmosphere filled with love and encouragement.
Deanne is preceded in death by her parents L.B. and Dean Jones, as well as by two loving husbands: Harold Stout and John Horton. She leaves behind a loving family and a community of dear friends to cherish her memory.
Deanne is survived by her children: Robert Mathis, Cherie Mathis, Phillip Mathis, Dana Mathis, and Melissa Vaughn (Freddie Vaughn), were the center of Dorothy's world. Her love for them was unwavering and she took great pride in their accomplishments.
Deanne's legacy also lives on through her grandchildren: Candy Mathis, Mindy McDonald (Thomas), Chris West (Emalie), Michael Mathis (Heather), Andy Mathis (Sami), Jeremy Mathis, Joel Andrew Pruett II (Haylee), Lisa Johnson (Chris), Jordan Mathis, Greggory Bobo, Boston Mathis (Angi), and Megan Mathis.
The love Deanne expressed to her grandchildren multiplied as she became a great-grandmother. Jason Olthoff, Kaden Mathis, Rylee Mathis, Elly West, Christopher Ralph, Ari West, Lorelei McDonald, Christin Mathis, Kourtney Ralph, Emma Correa, Noah Mathis, Thea Correa, Nolan Mathis, Jameson Mathis, Baylor Mathis, Jayke Mathis and Mia Mathis, and Joel Andrew Pruett III were the lucky recipients of her boundless affection.
Dorothy Deanne Horton's resounding impact on those around her will forever be remembered and cherished. She brought laughter into any room she entered and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing her. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
