Dorothy Jarrett of Lubbock passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the age of 87. She was born June 26, 1927 in Lockney to Jno and Rose (Carthel) Belt. Dorothy graduated from Lockney High School in 1944 and worked as the high school secretary from 1970-1990. She and Charles Edwin “Bob” Jarrett eloped on August 5, 1945. He was the Floyd County Commissioner for 33 years before passing away on November 13, 2010. She was a member of the West Side Church of Christ in Lockney until she and Bob retired to Ruidoso and later to Fredericksburg. Upon his death, she moved to Lubbock where she placed membership at Sunset Church of Christ. She was active in the over 60 Sunday School group and played cards on Tuesday afternoons.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Mickey Gowler and husband Jerry of Lubbock and Peggy Jarrett of Knoxville, Tennessee; son-in-law, Tom Anderson of Fredericksburg; sister, Retha Wofford of Lubbock; brother-in-law, Lonnie Jarrett of Alamogordo; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her travel companion, Mrs. Jerry Brown Clark.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Trudy Jane Jarrett Anderson; and grandson, James Mason Anderson.
Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Sunset Church of Christ Chapel. The family suggests memorials be made to Sunset Church of Christ, 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410.
