Douglas R. Boren of Lubbock passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the age of 87. He was born to Irdell and Iona Boren on February 21, 1926 in Bell County and graduated Sudan High School in 1944. Doug enrolled at Texas Tech University but his education was interrupted twice by military service. He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, returned to Tech and was recalled to the Korean Conflict during his senior year.
Doug returned to Lubbock and became a prominent figure in banking, serving as President of Security National Bank for 20 years and later with PlainsCapital Bank. Dedicated to community service, he was Chairman of the Board of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee and longtime Chairman of the Armed Services Committee supporting Reese Air Force Base. Most recently, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Carillon Senior LifeCare Community. In January of this year, he received the Wright Brothers “Master Pilot” Award by the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration.
Doug is survived by his wife of 62 years, Angela Rattan Boren, who shared his passion for flying, international travel and Texas Tech University.
Friends and family will gather for a memorial service at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Biggin Hill Airpark, Hanger #8,11302 Highway 84 near Shallowater.
