Dr. Howard W. McIlroy, 86, of Lubbock passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 surrounded by his family.  He was born November 22, 1927 in Lubbock to Dr. Thomas and Johnnie McIlroy.  Dr. McIlroy attended Texas Tech University before joining the U.S. Navy Seabee serving in World War II, where he was honorably discharged in 1948.  He continued in his family’s legacy by receiving his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in 1952 from Texas Chiropractic College in San Antonio making him a third generation in the field. He furthered his education by receiving his Associate of Arts Degree in 1955.  Upon receiving his license for Texas, he went on to hold licenses in the states of New Mexico and Oklahoma.  He was a State Director of the Texas Chiropractic Association.  Dr.  McIlroy’s knowledge and experience went well beyond Chiropractic care.  He was certified as an x-ray and acupuncture instructor, and spinal manipulation under anesthetic.  He continued to attend seminars and programs to serve his patients.

Dr. McIlroy spent more than 15 years educating the community on chiropractic care by writing and producing television spots.  He had a weekly radio show that discussed natural health benefits and conducted live programs that allowed people to call and ask questions.  He spoke at a number of events and clubs, as well as to students at Texas Tech University and the School of Medicine.  After 54 years of service, Dr. McIlroy retired in 2006.  He was a Mason and member of the Lions Club and First United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of more than 30 years, Connie; children and step-children, Sharon McIlroy of Austin, Mindy Hatch and husband Les of Lubbock; Gary McIlroy and wife Dee of Austin, John McIlroy of Amarillo, and Mike Morgan and wife Mariel of Lubbock; sister, Daina Starnes and husband Harley of Stratford; five grandchildren, Zachary McIlroy and wife Sarah, Meagan McIlroy, Hayden Hatch, Bonnie Hatch, and Hannah Morgan; and one great-grandson, Knoxton McIlroy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Millie McIlroy.

Memorial services are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Bowman Chapel, with Dr. Keith Wiseman officiating.
