Dwayne Vaughan, 93, of Hurst and formerly of the Lubbock and Tahoka area, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning, November 21, 2022. Dwayne was born on January 15, 1929, in Wynnewood, Garvin County, Oklahoma, to the late Ira Vaughan and Ruby (Newton) Vaughan.
He met Odell Swanner and they were united in marriage on July 5, 1963 in Littlefield, Texas. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2020.
Dwayne was a farmer for the majority of his life but worked as a machinist and dabbled in real estate. He was also a police officer in Brownfield from 1960 to 1963 and was a boxer in his childhood. He loved singing gospel music, with his tenor voice, in the church choir. He was a people person and very family oriented. He retired in 1995. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Tahoka for many years.
Survivors include five children, Steve (Carolyn) Vaughan of Hurst, Teresa (Jerry) Ward of Lamesa, James (Reggie) Vaughan of Midland, Jerry (Teresa) Ward of Lamesa, and Linda (Math) Bartley of Lubbock; one sister, Betty (Denver) Ford of Lubbock; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Robert Ward and one sister, Joyce Noble.
There will be no viewing or visitation for Mr. Vaughan. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, November 26, 2022, in the Nevels Memorial Cemetery, in Tahoka. Reverend L. J. Wright, pastor of First Baptist Church in New Home, will be the officiant. Burial will be under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Three Oaks Hospice, 500 Grapevine Highway, Suite 225, Hurst, TX 76054.
