Edith Marie Holder, 88, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, 11am at the First United Methodist Church in Vernon, TX with Pastor Tom Davis officiating. Edith was born in the country in Wichita County to RB and Loraine Carpenter. The family moved to Denver City, Tx where she grew up. She married her high school sweetheart, Jackie Luton. They lived a beautiful life in Houston, TX and had three daughters, Janet, Shelli and Sharron. After the sudden passing of Jackie, Edith and their daughters moved to Lubbock, TX. Within several years, God blessed Edith with a reconnection to her childhood friend, Ray Holder. That reconnection led to another great love story. Ray & Edith made their home in Vernon, TX and were married for 42 years before Ray’s passing in 2013.
Edith loved her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an even better laugh.
Edith proudly served as legal secretary for the Wilbarger County District Attorney’s office for 21 years and was a long-time member of the division of Legal Secretaries of the State Bar of Texas. She truly loved her job and coworkers. She enjoyed golfing with Ray in her younger days and had a special talent for sewing. Her girls would often go to bed when Edith had just started sewing for the evening and wake up the next day with a new outfit, ready to wear. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vernon, TX and an active member of the Win-Some Sunday school class. She loved her church and was deeply saddened when her health declined and was unable to attend. She was a member of the Yamparika Club in Vernon where she served as secretary for many years. She also volunteered for the Red River Valley Museum in Vernon.
Edith is rejoicing with those who preceded her in death: Parents RB & Loraine Carpenter, husband Jackie Luton and husband Ray Holder. daughter, Janet Luton, brothers CB & Kenneth Carpenter, sweet sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Carpenter & Willie May Williams and niece Beverly Carpenter and nephew Rod Williams.
