Edward Palmer Hunker, 70, of Lubbock, passed away on Saturday evening, November 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Palmer was born on August 18, 1954, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, to Edith Mae (Hambay) Hunker and the late James Edward Hunker.
He attended Clovis High School and graduated with his senior class in 1972. He furthered his education by attending the Texas State Technical Institute in Amarillo, graduating in 1973, after studying mechanics.
Palmer met the love of his life, Vickie Lynn Gilliam, and they were united in marriage on November 3, 1973, in Clovis, New Mexico.
Palmer worked for LP&L as a technical instrument technician for 20 years. He also worked for the United States Postal Service for 6 years as a technical maintenance engineer, before retiring in 2014.
Palmer enjoyed NASCAR, watching racing at the local dirt track, tinkering with cars and even played the trombone in the local Westwinds Brass Band. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Texas Tech Red Raiders play football. He also was very interested in the mechanics of machinery and would watch and figure out how mechanical things worked. Palmer was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy and served during Desert Storm and the Persian Gulf conflict. He was a member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Vickie; one son, Clinton Hunker of Lubbock; one daughter, Lura Hunker of Lubbock; his mother, Edith Mae Hunker of Rockwall, Texas; two brothers: Warren Hunker and wife Vickie R. of Lavon, Texas and Steven Hunker of Lubbock; two granddaughters and a grandson, Channing Scott. He was preceded in death by his father.
The visitation for Mr. Hunker will be from 11 AM to 2:45 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3 PM in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory. Pastor Collin Britt of New Home Baptist Church will be the officiant.
