Edward Pittman

March 20, 1939 — April 14, 2022

Edward "Ed" Preston Pittman went home on April 14, 2022. Ed was born in Hobbs, New Mexico on March 20, 1939 to Jack and Maxine Pittman. He was the second of five children: Bobby Jack, Jerry, Eugene, and Carlotta. He grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico and Rogers, Arkansas.

Ed lived a full life. He married Catherin Roberts on June 7, 1959 and had two children. After Cathy passed away in 1999, Ed married Karel Sage on December 19, 2003.

He served in the Air Force and guarded Air Force One for President Eisenhower. He held many jobs over the years, including driving a truck for Cathy Furniture and driving a bus for Lubbock ISD. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and was an elder with Westwood Church. Ed was also a lifelong bowler who enjoyed competing in tournaments across the country.

Ed enjoyed cheering for the Texas Rangers, traveling, camping, and visiting family and friends. He also enjoyed learning about and sharing family history, tracing his family's arrival to the area all the way back to a covered wagon. Ed was a wise man who knew when to share his knowledge and when to crack a joke. Sometimes, he did both at once, like when he convinced kids that the missing fingers on his left hand had been bitten off by boogers. Most importantly, he loved his family and made sure they knew it.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Maxine and Jack, brothers Bobby Jack and Eugene, sister Carlotta, first wife Catherin, son-in-law Glenn, and son Ronnie Layne. He is survived by wife Karel Pittman, brother Jerry Pittman, daughter Suzi Moore and husband James, son Eddie Pittman and wife Tammy, son Chris Wade and wife Melissa, grandchildren Travis Wade and wife Ava, Sidney Gilster and husband Caleb, Cory Davis and wife Molly, Tommy Wilson and wife Lacey, Julie Winkler, Courtney Mendoza, and Joshua Pittman. Ed is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Cate and Coen Winkler, Scarlett and Zoe Davis, and Kynlee Gilster. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Sophia.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday April 22, 2022 at Westwood Church of Lubbock with burial to follow at Lorenzo Cemetery.
